I have always thought of myself as an advocate with a camera.

Morgan Smith

When I worked as a Public Defender and criminal defense attorney, I was an advocate for the concept of justice. As a member of the Colorado House of Representatives, I was an advocate for prison reform and mental health issues. Working for two governors, I advocated for economic development and international business. Now living in Santa Fe, my major focus has been on the Mexican border.

For the last decade, I’ve committed myself to documenting the many extraordinary people who provide to those who struggle to survive on the Mexican side of the border. More recently, I’ve also focused on the confusing and often tragic plight of the thousands of migrants who have come north to seek asylum in our country. This is where the camera is an invaluable tool.

In addition, I have been a lover of flamenco music since I was a teenager and a visitor to and for four years a resident of Spain. Again, the camera is an indispensable tool. Words are important but most people are visual.
